Centre Hosts Community Libraries Conference

Posted by Justin Kiyimba on Sunday, February 2, 2014

Nambi Sseppuuya Community Resource Centre is a Member of the Uganda Community Libraries Association (UgCLA) comprising of close to 80 community Libraries. The Association holds an annual general conference to share ideas, developments, discuss and advise each other regarding the challenges we face, etc. The Association has so far held  four conferences in the towns of Masaka and Mbale. During the 2013 Conference, it was decided that the 4th one in 2014  should be held not in a town but a community library. NSCRC was selected to host it. We took up the challenge and as January approached, we started the preparations.

The three days Conference with the theme, Developing an International Profile, took place from Sunday 19th to Tuesday 21st January. The turn up for the Conference was impressive. Over 50 community libraries were represented. We have been informed by a number of those who attended and we hope they are sincere, that the Conference was a great success.

The women's group at the Resource Centre, Nambi Women Group, Igombe, prepared all the three days meals for the participants right from breakfast to dinner. The conference was both a training ground and a means to generate some income for the group. At the end of the conference they sang, danced and performed a short play about the Resource Centre's contribution to the education development of their community.
