Children’s Library in Full Swing

Since the construction of the children’s library and ICT
room has been partially completed they have been put to good use by the staff
at the resource centre. Although the
floor is still not finished in wither of these rooms they are still being used
as much as possible. Isa, the centre’s
librarian, has been hosting reading tents for the children and encouraging
children from local schools to come and visit the library. He has been continuing his outreach to the
schools on his bicycle and adult learning classes as well. Recently Isa and Justin, the centre’s
founder, went to Kampala to take part in a conference held by Book Aid International. They shared some of the activities at the
centre and also learned some things as well.
Two representatives, Karen and Andrea, also came to visit the
centre. With them they brought even more
books for the centre to use! All the
staff at the centre, and users of the library were very grateful for this
donation. It has continued to increase the
amount of knowledge and resources available at the library.Helping Isa sort all these books are two interns from
Kyambogo University. They are currently
finishing their studies in library science and helping Isa with sorting books
and community outreach. They are a
welcomed set of extra hands and will surely be helpful in moving the library’s
mission forward. The women in the
community also continue to make hand crafts and work with Isa at the library to
show them to visitors. Thank you to Book
Aid International and all of its supporters in their continued support of the resource
centre. All of these activities are ensuring that the resource
centre is being used to its full potential.
