Happy New Year

2012 proved to be an excellent year for the Centre with the completion of the children's library finally leading to the completion of the entire Centre. A big thank you to all those that supported the centre. We rounded off the year in fine style with our annual Christmas Party.
Firstly back in October last year, the children's library was officially opened, and we were pleased that the New Vision, Uganda's leading newspaper, covered the opening. Check out our video pages for a new video, shot by Book Aid International who helped finance the completion of the children's library, and learn a little about our bicycle schools outreach programme.
Though the Centre is now physically complete, our work is only just beginning. Our next target is making it attractive enough for all categories of its users. We need to do the following:
1. Acquire furniture for all the sections of the Resource Centre, namely, Adult Library, Children's Library, ICT Laboratory, and Special Collection Room. Furniture needed is:
(i) shelving
(ii) chairs
(iii) tables
2. ICT equipment, namely computers and Internet connectivity
3. A small room where tea/coffee and/or soft drinks can be served during a workshop, seminar etc.
This is to enable us fully meet what we have stated as the Resource Centre Mission objectives, namely:
To fight illiteracy, ignorance, poverty and disease through education, training and provision of reading and research materials.
Those of you that have visited the website before may have noticed that it has an improved look for which we'd like to thank long man web design, based in Brighton in the UK, for their work on the site over Christmas and the New Year. This will provide extra support for our long term web volunteer, Kristopher Schmitz, who is currently in southern Sudan, where good web access is not always available, to whom of course we would also like to offer our thanks.
Finally, please see our information sheet highlighting our objectives and challenges for the future. You'll see we have listed some potential solutions to these challenges. If you can help, that would be fantastic.
